Paragraphe 1
Frank Mulliez
Born in 1971.
A big fan of Philippe de Dieuleveult at age 12, I dream of becoming a helicopter pilot and traveling the world with a camera on hand.A age 20, I join the alpine hunters division of the French army while continuing my pilot training with the renowned pilot and instructor Michel Anglade, one of Philippe's great friends, my childhood idol.
My dream finally comes true at 33 years old. Since then, Caroline and I are flying all over the world in an attempt to capture its true beauty.
I feel lucky to be working with prestigious magazines such as Géo. I don't think of myself as a photographer but rather a pilot who is passionnate about photography and encounters.
One quote! That of Sir Latécoere, founder of the air postal service:
" I redid all calculations, our idea is unrealizable... we have one thing left to do...realize it" -
Paragraphe 2
Caroline Mulliez
Born in 1973.
After 10 years in the US and a short career in macroconomy at the World Bank in Washington D.C., I say good-bye to statistics, pick up my backpack to never really unpack and follow Frank in all his trips. My job is twofold. It's about logistics: Finding some type of flying aircraft across the world, one or two pilots willing to fly the machine, some fuel along our itinerary, or even a place to sleep or something to eat.
But on board, it's all about navigation (working with maps and GPS) and managing the story-board (I validate the target to be photographed and read instructions to Frank). I keep a record of everything to make sure we can precisely locate all shots later on. Back on the ground and once the shoot is over, I deal with accounting while my hubby writes another story-board.
One great encounter: A Saharawites family welcoming us with open arms after our helicopter broke down in the middle of the desert...But sadly, we fixed the chopper and had to leave...
